Sky Window is a proposed video work presenting a live view of the sky via a circular crystal LED or LCD display.

Neither a photograph nor a recording, the work unfolds in real time. Clouds pass, light shifts, weather gathers and disperses. No two moments are the same.

Sky Window brings the atmosphere from one location to another, creating a contemplative encounter with the ordinary and extraordinary passage of time and place.

The Installation

A fixed camera, positioned with an uninterrupted view of the sky, transmits a continuous live video feed to a circular monitor. The image contains no horizon, commentary or other visual information. The technology remains unobtrusive, allowing the experience of light, atmosphere and time to take precedence.

Each installation presents the sky above its host location, connecting the artwork to the particular atmosphere of that place.

Host Enquiries

Sky Window is seeking institutional partners to establish a network of permanent installations internationally.

Host institutions provide a suitable camera location, and assist in the maintainence of the live video feed.

Each installation carries the name of its host institution—for example, Sky Window (National Gallery of Australia)—establishing a permanent association between the artwork, its location and the institution.

Museums, galleries and public institutions interested in becoming a host are invited to enquire.
